In light of the rapidly mounting and evolving breadth of information related to COVID19, there is a need for reliable sources perhaps now more than ever. Seeing the various questions posed by the LatinX community, Nora Franco, NNLM PSR Consumer Health Librarian, responded by creating a resource guide with CDC Resources for Spanish speaking communities and those who support them. Additionally, the NNLM Greater Midwest Region worked with the Juntos Center for Advancing Latino Health to create a video addressing the concerns and misinformation surrounding COVID19.
This effort aligns with the call to action of the LatinX Caucus of the Medical Library Association (MLA) to contribute to the MLA’s COVID-19 Resources for Medical Librarians & Other Health Information Professionals page. The LatinX Caucus assembled the document in seven days, providing links to 136 Spanish language resources. The effort is the result of librarians across the U.S., including several in the PSR region – Naomi Bishop, Bredny Rodriguez, Aidy Weeks, Ruby Nugent, and Katie Houk.
Resources in the LatinX document include the NNLM PSR guide as well as the Disaster Information Management Research Center of the National Library of Medicine. We hope these compilations assist you and yours in these trying times.
