POC in History of Medicine Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon

Join Megan Rosenbloom, UCLA Collection Strategies Librarian, and the Medical Library Association (MLA) on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 12:30-2:30pm Pacific Time to edit Wikipedia entries about People of Color (POC) and their significant contributions to American medical history. Examples include:

  • Sojourner Truth & Harriet Tubman, healthcare workers & advocates in addition to being famous abolitionists.
  • Susie Walking Bear Yellowtail, one of the first Native American registered nurses who traveled the U.S. providing indigenous people with greater access to healthcare.
  • Vivien Thomas, the laboratory supervisor who became a cardiac surgery pioneer and developed a lifesaving procedure to treat blue baby syndrome

No experience necessary, as this first event will introduce Wikipedia editing. Register for the event to join the day of, participate in the training, and learn more about getting set up. This event is hosted by the Medical Library Association’s History of the Health Sciences Caucus Anti-Racist Task Force and is open to the public.
