Purpose: 

To increase awareness of health workforce needs in rural communities and share innovative, best practices regarding the need to recruit and retain health and allied health professionals in rural communities.   

Objectives:

  1. Discuss recruitment and retention issues in rural settings for health and allied health providers.
  2. Identify unique challenges of attracting health care providers to rural areas.
  3. Discover training opportunities and career ladder progression programs in rural areas.

    About:

    The Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW) programs provide financial support to institutions and individuals to enhance training programs and support practice in underserved communities. 

    The Workforce Grand Rounds webinar series' goal is to improve health professions training with the intention to increase the number of high-quality health professionals, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

    The American Public Health Association provided CEUs.

    Medicine (CME) Accreditation Statement
    This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau of Health Workforce. The APHA is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  
    Designation Statement: The APHA designates this Online educational activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit (s)™.    

    Nursing (CNE) Accreditation Statement
    This continuing nursing education activity was approved by APHA/PHN, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

    Health Education (CHES®) Statement
    The American Public Health Association is accredited by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. to sponsor continuing education for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES®). This program is a designated event for the CHES® to receive up to 1.0 Category I CE contact hours (CHEC).

    CME-Non Physicians (Other Professions) Statement
    The CME-non physicians is given for Other professions that will accept Category I credit hours. It uses the same accreditation statement as CME.
