Lydia Collins, Consumer Health Coordinator
I’m sure after this long, cold winter many of you are just as excited as I am about the warm weather ahead. Spring has arrived and summer is almost here! As you know NN/LM MAR network members come from a variety of organizational types. We have libraries (academic, hospital, public, school, and special), community- and faith-based organizations, public health departments, K-12 schools, and the list goes on.
As we spend more time outdoors and prepare our families, as well as people we serve in our organizations, for gardening, hiking, summer reading programs, outdoor camps, vacations and more, it is important to remember safety tips. It also helps to remind our constituents where to find reliable and trusted information on topics such as water, heat, outdoor play and even pet health, as they need to be cared for in the summer heat as well!
Below are summer safety resources from reputable organizations such as the American Red Cross, Environmental Protection Agency, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, National Library of Medicine and more. All of the resources can be found in MedlinePlus.gov, that’s where I found them.
You can always take a look at all of the MedlinePlus Safety topics: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/safetyissues.html
From all of us here at NN/LM MAR – enjoy your summer and be safe in the sun.
