Barbara Epstein, Director
MAR is fortunate to have within its borders a notable group of 30 institutions that serve as Resource Libraries. These include academic health centers, medical schools, research centers, clinical facilities, and historical collections. Resource libraries are selected on the basis of the quality and uniqueness of their collections and services, special expertise, and their support of regional and national programs serving health information needs in their state and/or region.
For the second time in this contract period, MAR gathered Resource Library directors for an in-person meeting to solicit their input and suggestions for future MAR programs and services. This was held in Philadelphia on September 19, 2014. Members of the Resource & Academic Libraries Special Advisory Group were also invited.
Attendees brainstormed about current challenges in their settings, and how MAR could best assist in addressing these through education, funding initiatives, and collaborative programs. There was wide-ranging discussion throughout the day. After the meeting, attendees were asked to consider the ideas discussed, and respond to emailed questions with their recommendations.
There was general agreement that this was a very productive meeting. We at MAR will find this member feedback very valuable as we begin planning for the last year of our current contract, and for the next five-year contract that will begin in May 2016.
