Erin Seger, Health Professions Coordinator
Hello! I’m Erin Seger, the new Health Professions Coordinator at NNLM MAR. I’m excited to join a team that has accomplished so much over the past six years and look forward to applying my background in health education and public health to the role. I studied Community Health Education at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and earned my Masters in Public Health from the University of Illinois- Chicago. Prior to starting in my position with MAR, I was a Health Coach and Health Educator with several companies focused on health behavior change. I also spent time as a Health Educator at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Health Learning Center. This is a patient-focused library inside the hospital where I conducted individual education sessions and ensured that patrons received trusted health resources to help them better understand their health and conditions. This role was where I was exposed to the connection between library science and public health. Here, I used several National Library of Medicine resources to assist patients, including MedlinePlus. I was drawn to the role of Health Professions Coordinator because I enjoy teaching others about resources that can improve their work, and I think that NLM’s resources are an asset to Health Professionals working within their communities.
When I’m not working, I enjoy running, reading, cooking, craft beer sampling, watching football and spending time with my family (which consists of my husband and two cats). I also love to travel. I have visited 23 countries since my first international trip in 2001 and lived in 4 U.S. cities since 2011. I hope that I don’t add to the list of home cities anytime soon because I enjoy living in Pittsburgh and recently purchased my first home here. I do hope to continue to add to the list of countries visited as I am able.
