NNLM Reading Club Book Kits: Family Health History

Posted by on December 10th, 2018 Posted in: All of Us, Consumer Health, Education, Outreach

Book clubs provide a space that encourages engaged conversations and allows for people to connect with one another. The NNLM All of Us Community Engagement Network has developed the NNLM Reading Club as a way to build and support conversations around important health topics. The goal is to support libraries’ health literacy efforts and address local communities’ health information needs, through the fun and intimacy of a book club. The NNLM Reading Club offers a selection of three different book titles, along with corresponding free, ready-to-use materials designed to help promote and facilitate a book club discussion on a health issue or topic. This program-in-a-box includes 8 copies of each of the following items, all of which are tucked inside a handy library bag and shipped to the requesting library:

  • the selected book
  • discussion guide
  • MedlinePlus flyer
  • NIH MedlinePlus Magazine
  • additional material in support of the health topic

Any NNLM MAR member organization (membership is free!) is eligible to apply for one free NNLM Reading Club Book Kit through April 30, 2019. Due to the expected high demand, public libraries will receive priority status in the selection process, but all are welcome to apply. To request your NNLM Reading Club Book Kit, complete the online application form.

For questions, additional information, or special accessibility requests that would facilitate better participation of the book club for your patrons, please contact NNLM MAR All of Us Community Engagement Coordinator, Veronica Leigh Milliner at VLM38@pitt.edu. Visit the NNLM Reading Club page to browse the current selections and featured topic of Family Health History.
