Data Services On-Demand

Data Services On-Demand launched 11/1/24. This learning experience consists of 4 modules that are self-contained and count towards MLA-CE hours. Furthermore, all modules count towards the MLA Data Services Specialization (DSS) These modules cover:

• Research Data Management
• Research Data Sharing 
• Supporting Open Science: Tools and Trends 
• Data Ethics

Fundamentals of Health Data Science

Our Fundamentals of Health Data Science course is running from January through March 2025. This hybrid course (asynchronous with group meetings) aims to guide Health Sciences Librarians with little or no programming skills through a coding project using Python. Learners will have access to mentors and technical guidance to develop these skills. Although this class is already full and not currently available for registration, after the class has ended we plan on releasing the course syllabus for those who may wish to study on their own.

Data for Everyone

We will be offering this new webinar on 03/06/2025! This class will be an introduction to learning about data. If you have any interest in learning about data but do not know where to start, this class is a great entry point to and foundation for classes currently offered in data management, data science, data services, and statistics. 

Topics will include a review of data terminologies, data types, and the basic concepts involved in working with a spreadsheet. Additionally, the class will encourage students to explore further NNLM learning opportunities for working with data.

2025 Short Course

We are currently developing and setting up collaborations for our 2025 short course, which is tentatively planned for April. It will cover topics such as data discovery, conducting a data interview, building Data Management and Sharing Plan Services, and some first-hand accounts of building data services in Health Sciences libraries. Stay tuned for more information!

Internship Summit

We will be hosting a group of NCDS Data Internship alumni at the NIH Campus in Bethesda, Maryland in April of this year. This will provide an opportunity for our internship alumni to network and become more familiar with the work being done by librarians at the NLM and the NIH. This will also be an opportunity for our interns to discuss their experiences as early-career librarians, library work, and working with data.
