Building your professional community and expanding your skills and knowledge are important areas of development for evaluators.\u00a0 Professional organizations such as the\u00a0American Evaluation Association<\/a>\u00a0(AEA)\u00a0 can be an important conduit to growing one\u2019s professional community, as well as skills and knowledgebase.<\/p>\n

Build your professional community<\/strong><\/p>\n

The American Evaluation Association has thousands of members from across the United States and nearly 100 foreign countries. The AEA fosters\u00a0community<\/a>\u00a0through several specific channels, including\u00a0the online\u00a0AEA Connect<\/a>\u00a0collaboration platform,\u00a0the\u00a0EvalTalk<\/a>\u00a0community forum, Topical Interest Groups (TIGs<\/a>) coordinated around a special topic area,\u00a0the\u00a0\u201cFind an Evaluator<\/a>\u201d expertise search tool, the\u00a0Membership Directory<\/a>, and local affiliates<\/a>. The AEA also builds upon the strengths of its membership through volunteer opportunities<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Expand your skills and knowledge<\/strong><\/p>\n

Interested in gaining new evaluation tools for your toolbelt? If so, the AEA offers a range of education programs<\/a>\u00a0through their\u00a0Digital Knowledge Hub<\/a>, a library of tools and training resources. You can improve presentation skills through better Message, Design, and Delivery through AEA\u2019s\u00a0Potent Presentations Initiative<\/a>. The\u00a0Annual Evaluation Conference<\/a> is another excellent opportunity to hear about new methods, teams, and tools \u2014 as is the annual\u00a0Summer Evaluation Institute<\/a>. The AEA also keeps track of university-based programs<\/a> and other\u00a0outside events<\/a>\u00a0for further study and growth. AEA also offers a range of formal and informal\u00a0publications and other resources<\/a>. These publications can not only serve as excellent learning resources, but they can be a terrific way to communicate YOUR evaluation work to the broader evaluation community.<\/p>\n
