Mohammad Hosseini, PhD<\/a>, a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Preventive Medicine\u2019s Division of Health and Biomedical Informatics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, has joined the National Evaluation Center (NEC<\/a>), where he will be leading initiatives related to research ethics and attribution. Hosseini will also collaborate on diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility initiatives, including the Personas<\/a> project.<\/p>\n

\"Headshot\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to join the NEC and its host of professional experts. As an ethicist who works on ensuring that research is conducted with integrity, I see various opportunities to add value to NEC\u2019s mission in terms of improving public health by providing U.S. health professionals with equal access to biomedical information,\u201d says Hosseini.<\/p>\n

As a postdoctoral scholar based at Galter Health Sciences Library, Hosseini has actively collaborated with faculty and staff at Northwestern, and recently published an article exploring the ethics of authorship and social science research<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Born in Tehran, Hosseini received his MA in Applied Ethics from Utrecht University (2016, The Netherlands) and completed his PhD in Research Ethics and Integrity at Dublin City University (2021, Ireland), where he also served as a guest lecturer in ethics.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing involved in projects that aim to minimize health disparities, improve access to health information, and invest in workforce development of biomedical librarians is a fascinating opportunity to learn about how to pull different resources together to deliver public services and improve the status quo,\u201d he says. \u201cI could not have wished for a better opportunity than being a part of the NEC.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since joining Northwestern in September 2021, Hosseini\u2019s insights have been essential to new and ongoing projects that aim to identify ethical issues in collaborative research and suggest possible solutions for reoccurring inequities. In collaboration with Data Librarian\u00a0Sara Gonzales MS, MLIS<\/a>, he is currently investigating the perspectives of researchers with different roles in collaborative environments. Furthermore, he is working with members of\u00a0the NUCATS Institute\u00a0to analyze ethical issues in Translational Sciences.<\/p>\n
