{"id":116,"date":"2017-07-24T20:00:48","date_gmt":"2017-07-24T20:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/?p=116"},"modified":"2020-04-27T15:24:38","modified_gmt":"2020-04-27T15:24:38","slug":"on-site-instruction-in-our-nations-capital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/on-site-instruction-in-our-nations-capital\/","title":{"rendered":"On-Site Instruction  in Our Nation&#8217;s Capital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-115 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2017\/07\/DCDOH.logo_.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"161\" height=\"95\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Last week I had the pleasure of co-instructing at the <a href=\"https:\/\/doh.dc.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">District of Columbia, Department of Health<\/a>\u00a0(DC DOH)\u00a0with Gisela Butera\u00a0from George Washington University&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/himmelfarb.gwu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library<\/a>. \u00a0As the partner library for the department, Himmelfarb provides document delivery as well as instruction to DC DOH.\u00a0\u00a0The training session covered topics including: how to\u00a0search PubMed for PHDL articles,\u00a0access Cochrane Library, CABI Global Health and STAT!Ref. \u00a0Mendeley, an easy to use free citation management tool, was also covered. \u00a0Participants were active and engaged throughout the sessions and by the end of the first day one participant had already ordered an article via Loansome Doc!<\/p>\n<p>With the support of the senior leaders and project team at DC DOH, the digital library was brought on in conjunction with a program initative by DC DOH Director, <a href=\"https:\/\/doh.dc.gov\/biography\/laquandra-s-nesbitt-md-mph\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LaQuandra S. Nesbitt, MD, MPH<\/a>: the 3 Rs; &#8220;Read, Research, Recommend&#8221;. \u00a0DC DOH encourages workers to bring evidence to their work wherever possible.
