{"id":1425,"date":"2022-01-27T19:23:14","date_gmt":"2022-01-27T19:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/?p=1425"},"modified":"2022-02-09T16:14:54","modified_gmt":"2022-02-09T16:14:54","slug":"reaching-out-to-the-public-health-workforce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/reaching-out-to-the-public-health-workforce\/","title":{"rendered":"Reaching out to the Public Health Workforce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Network of the National Library of Medicine&#8217;s Public Health Collaborative (PHC) grew out of a small, informal working group in 2019.\u00a0 The group&#8217;s goal was to expand NNLM programming and outreach to the public health workforce.\u00a0 In 2021, the group evolved into the Public Health Collaborative (PHC), a working group of the NNLM and the NPHCO&#8217;s Public Health Coordination Office.\u00a0 Today, the PHC advises NNLM on matters of strategy and policy pertaining to public health engagement and works\u00a0 to improve and expand outreach, activities and training opportunities for the public health workforce.<\/p>\n<p>The PHC has also partnered with a number of public health associations including the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) to provide CE credit for the public health workforce.\u00a0 \u00a0Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credits are available for many of the classes and webinars offered by the NNLM.<\/p>\n<p>Currently plans are underway for offering a number of webinars and classes in the 2022-2023 year.<\/p>\n<p>Public Health Curriculum \/Classes<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Effective Health Communication and Health Literacy<\/li>\n<li>From Problem to Prevention: Evidence Based Public Health<\/li>\n<li>Health Statistics on the Web<\/li>\n<li>Rural Health Resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2022 -2023 PHC Webinar Series:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>January 2022, Reaching Black Audiences in a Digital World<\/li>\n<li>March 2022:\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nnlm.gov\/training\/class\/transgender-and-gender-nonbinary-sexual-and-reproductive-health\">Transgender and Gender-Nonbinary Sexual and Reproductive Health<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nnlm.gov\/training\/class\/commercial-determinants-health-tobacco-use\">Commercial Determinants of Health:\u00a0 Tobacco Use<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>4 additional webinars are being planned for the 2022-2023 calendar year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other public health programs offered by the NNLM:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Many of the <strong>NNLM&#8217;s Regions<\/strong> offer webinars and classes on public health topics.\u00a0 Please visit the NNLM&#8217;s Events Calendar to learn more about upcoming programs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>NNLM&#8217;s Guides and Resources<\/strong> focus on multiple public health topics including <em>Emergency and Disaster, HIV\/AIDS, Public Health, and Substance Use Disorder.\u00a0 <\/em>Resource guides are available on the NNLM&#8217;s website.<\/li>\n<li>State and local public health departments may subscribe to the <strong>Public Health Digital Library<\/strong>.\u00a0 The PHDL&#8217;s digital collection of databases, journals and eBooks support evidence-based practice in the field.
