The program launched in 2023 as a pilot at three county library locations. In the first ten months of distribution, community members have picked up a total of 4,871 gun locks.\u00a0 Register for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/training\/class\/locks-library-increasing-community-access-safe-storage\">Locks at the Library<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Digital Literacy in a Rural Community: June 12: 11:00 am to Noon EDT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This programs explores ways public libraries are collaborating with key agencies to address community health:\u00a0 \u00a0East Carroll Parish Library is in one of the most rural areas in northeastern Louisiana. The entire parish of East Carroll is a resource desert, and Time Magazine once named Lake Providence the most impoverished city in America. This makes the library in Lake Providence, Louisiana one of the most important resources in the parish. They were awarded a Telehealth Outreach Pilot Program Grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana and a grant by the Louisiana Board of Regents to hire an individual to do all things digital (Digital Navigator). The library\u2019s digital navigator and outreach coordinator will discuss coordinating events and programs at the library that engage and enrich its community of users.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beyond the Binary: Understanding LGBTQIA+ Health: June 12, 2024, 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm EDT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The class aims to provide culturally appropriate health information and resources for LGBTQIA+ populations and the librarians and health care practitioners who support them.\u00a0 The topic of gender and LGBTQIA+ issues may be sensitive for some. Social stigma, fear, or rejection is real for many people. It is essential to bring awareness to these issues and create practices around addressing them.\u00a0 Providing access to health information for and about these populations is extremely important. Register for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/training\/class\/beyond-binary-understanding-lgbtqia-health-1\">Beyond the Binary<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Providing Multilingual Health Information: June 20, 2024, Noon to 1:00 pm EDT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This 1-hour webinar is designed to assist providers who work with diverse populations, to locate health information in languages other than English. The resources presented are selected for their emphasis on providing information in the preferred language of the population.\u00a0 The presentation addresses increasing health information access and use, along with increasing health equity through information by highlighting information from National Library of Medicine\u2019s MedlinePlus health information resource.\u00a0 Register for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/training\/class\/providing-multilingual-health-information\">Providing Multilingual Health Information<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>About NNLM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>NNLM supports a trained workforce for access &amp; use of biomedical &amp; health information, improved health literacy and increased health equity.
