More than 46 million Americans, or 15 percent of the U.S. population, live in rural areas as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau. Rural Americans are more likely to die from heart disease, cancer, unintentional injury, chronic lower respiratory disease, and stroke than their urban counterparts. Unintentional injury deaths are approximately 50 percent higher in rural areas than in urban areas, partly due to greater risk of death from motor vehicle crashes and opioid overdoses.

Join NNLM for our Rural Health Webinar Series this November. This series is an exploration of the efforts that communities take to address the unique health needs of rural populations in the United States and aims to provide practical evidence-based solutions that support librarians, health educators, community leaders, and direct care providers to improve rural health outcomes.

Building Healthy, Resilient Communities in Florida’s Rural Panhandle, November 6th

Facilitating Rural Access to Quality Health Information through Little Free Libraries, November 7th

Graphic Medicine Discussion: The Most Costly Journey, November 12th

When Your Community Is Your Hospital, November 13th

Promoting Walking for Health in Rural Communities, November 14th, qualifies for CHES, MLA and CNE credit

Palmetto Connect: Fostering Digital Inclusion in Rural South Carolina, November 19th

Social Connectedness and Improving the Health of Rural Communities, November 20th

Rural Health Resources, November 21th, qualifies for CHES, CHIS credit

To learn more about the series or register, visit the series page at www.nnlm.gov/ruralhealth. Work is currently underway on a Rural Health Guide that will include quality resources related to rural health.
