Every citation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-614 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/01\/currentlinkoutbutton.png\" alt=\"PHDL LinkOut Button\" width=\"80\" height=\"20\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What happens when I click on the Check FullText PHDL button?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>If the article is part of the PHDL, the article will appear in full-text<\/li>\n<li>If the article is not part of the PHDL, you&#8217;ll have options to find a version of the article&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0 as an open access or other freely available\u00a0 version of the article you are looking for<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0 or order the article from your Partner Library where you&#8217;ll be directed to instructions and options for ordering the article<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How will this change take place?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The CHECK FullText PHDL button will appear in the link to PubMed on the PHDL page. You&#8217;ll see the URL will look <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">similar<\/span> to <strong>https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/?otool=nphcophdl.\u00a0<\/strong>If you do not enter PubMed through that URL you will not see the PHDL button.<\/p>\n<p>You will also be able to set this in MyNCBI with the <em>NCBI Site Preferences Link<\/em>; you&#8217;ll select us from the list of libraries in\u00a0 PubMed&#8217;s Outside Tool.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When Is All This Happening?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If our configuration and testing go as planned we plan on implementing this change on January 17th.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We&#8217;ll send an updated PubMed URL to the remote file from which most departments receive the PHDL titles list.<\/li>\n<li>Departments not getting updates from the remote feed will be contacted individually so that the change can be made to your PHDL page on your end.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How will this make the PHDL better for me?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It will expand the reach of the PHDL by linking to full text articles that are available in Open Access publications or Open Access; you&#8217;ll be able to easily find freely available versions of an article<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;ll be able to see customized information for \u00a0<u>your Partner Library<\/u>\u00a0 You&#8217;ll see more tailored instructions on setting up and ordering articles.<\/li>\n<li>When requesting an article that is not available through the PHDL, the citation information will automatically display in the request form or email&#8230;you won&#8217;t have to type out or cut and paste your citation information.<\/li>\n<li>Later versions of the PHDL will:\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0 \u00a0originate from the tool&#8217;s content management system<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0 \u00a0integrate with Google Scholar to find full-text in GS<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0 \u00a0expand search functionality with a new Discovery layer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How Can I Learn About These Changes and What To Do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We are scheduling a series of\u00a0 one-time classes to walk through these changes (and the new PubMed) for the following two weeks after the change.\u00a0 Watch the <a href=\"https:\/\/nnlm.gov\/nphco\/calendar\">NPHCO Calendar<\/a> for those classes labeled <em>&#8220;Outside Tool Configuration Instruction&#8221;<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;ll make available a help guide to walk users through the new process and also set up their MyNCBI with their Site Preferences.<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;ll take your calls and answer your questions to us at phdl@umassmed.edu.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>These changes coincide with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nlm.nih.gov\/pubs\/techbull\/nd19\/nd19_pubmed_new.html\">new version of PubMed,<\/a> also rolling out early 2020.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s more details in this NLM Technical Bulletin on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nlm.nih.gov\/pubs\/techbull\/ja19\/ja19_pubmed_labs_linkout.html\">Library LinkOut Using Outside Tool<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve talked about changes affecting how you will find PHDL articles in PubMed.\u00a0 To continue allowing users to find PHDL articles in PubMed we are implementing what&#8217;s called link resolver tool.
