{"id":720,"date":"2020-03-19T19:23:53","date_gmt":"2020-03-19T19:23:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/?p=720"},"modified":"2020-04-27T15:24:36","modified_gmt":"2020-04-27T15:24:36","slug":"litcovid-cord-19-and-data-mining","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/litcovid-cord-19-and-data-mining\/","title":{"rendered":"LitCovid, CORD-19, and Data Mining"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve highlighted some Coronavirus resources in our post, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/novel-coronavirus-2019-phdl-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Coronavirus Disease 2019 Resources.<\/a>\u00a0 This post follows up on those resources with the recent initiative to further compile, organize, and make new discoveries of emerging research.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/research\/coronavirus\/\">LitCovid<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Anyone needing quick access to COVID-19 research literature should use <a href=\"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/check-full-text-phdl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NLM&#8217;s LitCovid<\/a>.\u00a0 LitCovid provides central access to articles in PubMed on the 2019 novel Coronavirus.\u00a0 The tool makes the research quickly findable by research topics:\u00a0 overview, disease mechanism, transmission dynamics, treatment, case report, and epidemic forecasting.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"intro-header\"><span class=\"intro-name\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"intro-header\"><span class=\"intro-name\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-721 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/LitCovidMechCapture-300x177.png\" alt=\"LitCovid Screen\" width=\"300\" height=\"177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/LitCovidMechCapture-300x177.png 300w, https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/LitCovidMechCapture-768x453.png 768w, https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/LitCovidMechCapture.png 896w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>LitCovid is a curated literature hub for tracking up-to-date scientific information about the 2019 novel Coronavirus. It is the most comprehensive resource on the subject, providing access to <b>1263<\/b> (as of March 19 <strong>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/research\/coronavirus\/docsum\">growing<\/a><\/strong>) research articles in PubMed. The articles are updated daily and are further categorized by different research topics and geographic locations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-020-00694-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">developers,<\/a> its &#8220;aim is to provide timely insight from the scientific literature into the biology of the virus and the diagnosis and management of those infected&#8230;LitCovid identifies roughly 35% more relevant articles than do conventional keyword-based searches for entries such as \u2018COVID-19\u2019 or \u2018nCOV\u2019.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CORD-19<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>LitCovid is one repository of research information being combined with other datasets into CORD-19, the <strong>Covid-19 Open Research Dataset<\/strong>.\u00a0 CORD-19 is a resource of over 29,000 scholarly articles about COVID-19 and the coronavirus family of viruses for use by the global research community.\u00a0 The goal of the dataset is to spur the advancement of new insights applying data mining and machine intelligence.\u00a0 &#8220;The corpus will be updated weekly as new research is published in peer-reviewed publications and archival services like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biorxiv.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bioRxiv<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.medrxiv.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">medRxiv<\/a>, and others.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CORD-19 Challenge\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-722 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/03\/covidimage.png\" alt=\"Covid Image\" width=\"297\" height=\"253\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The LitCovid repository is linked to the WHO database, Microsoft Academic Graph, PubMed, and Semantic Scholar resources as a dataset and forum for the CORD-19 Challenge.
