{"id":976,"date":"2021-04-16T00:04:25","date_gmt":"2021-04-16T00:04:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/?p=976"},"modified":"2021-04-16T14:42:16","modified_gmt":"2021-04-16T14:42:16","slug":"2021-2026-announcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/2021-2026-announcement\/","title":{"rendered":"NNLM 2021-2026 Announcement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s official.\u00a0 The National Library of Medicine has announced the institutions operating under the Network of National Library of Medicine program.\u00a0 Seven institutions have been selected to serve as Regional Medical Libraries (RMLs) and four \u00a0institutions selected as National Coordinating Offices in the <a id=\"anch_37\" href=\"https:\/\/nnlm.gov\/\">Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM)<\/a>. The agreements begin May 1, 2021.\u00a0 We, the National Public Health Coordination Office, are one of those Offices.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been renewed to continue the work of the Public Health Digital Library; our work will also be expanding in overall public health engagement.<\/p>\n<p>The NNLM is considered NLM\u2019s \u201cfield force\u201d of trusted ambassadors with more than 8,000 organizational members representing libraries, community-based and community health organizations.\u00a0 Participating departments in the PHDL program are NNLM members!!<\/p>\n<p>Regional Medical Libraries coordinate the operation of a network of organizations to carry out regional and national programs. RMLs ensure a continuity of quality service for core programs of the NNLM, and cooperatively design, implement, and evaluate innovative approaches to advance the health information needs of health professionals and a diverse public. Each National Coordinating Office, like ours, performs a unique set of functions, but all serve to support and inform the work of the RMLs.<\/p>\n<p>Last June, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) published the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for the 2021-2026 Regional Medical Libraries (RMLs), the central component of the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM).\u00a0 Our home library, the Lamar Soutter Library at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, submitted for and has been awarded the Regional Medical Library Region 7 program as well as the National Public Health Coordination Office.<\/p>\n<p>Among other objectives, each RML is expected to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop approaches to promote awareness of, improve access to, and enable use of NLM\u2019s resources and data,<\/li>\n<li>Develop and support a diverse workforce to access information resources and data, and support data-driven research,<\/li>\n<li>Provide community-driven innovative approaches and interventions for biomedical and health information access and use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the 2021-2026 cooperative agreement period, seven Regional areas are defined:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-975\" src=\"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/nphco\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2021\/03\/NewNNLMMap-300x174.png\" alt=\"NNLM Map for 2021-2026\" width=\"300\" height=\"174\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Region 1:\u00a0<\/strong>Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.<strong> The RML will be University of Maryland at Baltimore Health Sciences and Human Services Library.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Region 2:\u00a0<\/strong>Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.\u00a0<strong> The RML will be Medical University of South Carolina Medical University of South Carolina Libraries.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Region 3:\u00a0<\/strong>Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>The RML will be University of North Texas Health Science Center Gibson D. Lewis Library.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Region 4:\u00a0<\/strong>Arizona, Idaho, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>The RML will be University of Utah Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Region 5:\u00a0<\/strong>Alaska, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and U.S. Territories and Freely Associated States in the Pacific.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>The RML will be University of Washington Health Sciences Library.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Region 6:\u00a0<\/strong>Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>The RML will be University of Iowa Hardin Library for the Health Sciences.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Region 7:\u00a0<\/strong>Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>The RML will be University of Massachusetts Medical School, Lamar Soutter Library, in Worcester.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NNLM Offices and Centers serve the NNLM program and are defined as:<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>NNLM Web Services Office<\/strong> will develop and maintain reliable Web services for NNLM public and internal needs.\u00a0<strong>Awarded to University of Maryland at Baltimore.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The<strong> NNLM Training Office<\/strong> will plan, create, share, deliver, coordinate, and evaluate an instructional program and educational materials based on key NLM products and services for a variety of audiences.
