Changing the Face of Medicine

Posted by on March 15th, 2005 Posted in: News From NNLM PNR

Three libraries in the NN/LM Pacific Northwest Region have been selected by the American Library Association to host the National Library of Medicine exhibit, “Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America’s Women Physicians” in 2005 and 2006. NLM mounted the initial exhibition honoring the lives and accomplishments of these women in the hope of inspiring a new generation of medical pioneers.

We congratulate the following libraries in this region:
* Multnomah County Public Library, Portland, Oregon
* Mid-Columbia Library District, Kennewick, Washington
* University of Washington Health Science Libraries, Seattle, Washington

The exhibition provides a marvelous panorama of the many ways that women have influenced and enhanced the practice of medicine and the individuals featured in it provide an intriguing glimpse of the broader community of women doctors who are making a difference. It will be on display in the host libraries for a six-week period. If you did not have an opportunity to view the exhibit at NLM in Bethesda, do look for it and any accompanying programs the libraries sponsor. When we know the exact dates for each venue we will send an alert.
