Posted by on April 5th, 2011 Posted in: Training & Education

Please join us on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 1pm Pacific time (12 Alaska, 2pm Mountain) as Sandra Smith, MPH, PhD, and Director of the Center for Health Literacy Promotion in Seattle presents Health Literacy: Beyond Better Information for our free monthly webcast at a special URL https://webmeeting.nih.gov/healthliteracy We are anticipating a higher number of attendees than usual and the room limit is 125 – be sure to connect early! If you are unable to connect or join us then, we invite you to view a recording of the webcast at the Rendezvous website later.

When we say “health care”, we mean medical care. When we say “health literacy”, almost always, we mean medical literacy. In this session we will consider various definitions and measures of health literacy and discuss the distinction between the broader concept of health literacy, which is applicable to everyday life, and medical literacy, which is specific to patients in clinical settings. We’ll also discuss what it means to promote health literacy and demonstrate a practical process to guide health decision making and action planning that is applicable in both clinical and community settings.

As part of our Federal agency services regarding electronic and information technology resources being accessible to people with disabilities, closed captioning is available on this and future RML Rendezvous webcasts.

For more information please visit How do I connect to the Rendezvous? to test your computer connection as a Flash update may be needed. We look forward to seeing you at the webcast!
