Free PubMed and TOXNET Training in Seattle

Join us at the University of Washington Health Sciences Library in Seattle, WA as the National Library of Medicine Training Center (NTC) presents PubMed® training on Thursday, September 15, 2011 8:30am to 5pm (7.5 Medical Library Association continuing education credits) and TOXNET® and Beyond on Friday, September 16, 2011 9:00am to 4:00pm (6 Medical Library Association continuing education credits).

Fill out the personal info and from the pull-down menus select September 15, 2011 Seattle,WA  for PubMed and/or September 16, 2011 Seattle, WA for the appropriate class.  Unless you can travel elsewhere, ignore the “second choice” pull-down.

PubMed®: a full-day class designed to improve use of PubMed®, including MEDLINE citations; Medical Subject Headings (MeSH®), and their importance to searchers; expert searching. For health professional students, faculty, researchers, practitioners – nurses, pharmacists, physicians, & more.

TOXNET® and Beyond:  This course is designed to convey the basics of searching the NLM’s TOXNET®, a Web-based system of databases in the areas of toxicology, environmental health, and related fields. The course will also teach students how to utilize NLM’s environmental health and toxicology portal which provides resources beyond the TOXNET® databases. Students will learn the content and structure of files covering toxicology data, toxicology literature, toxic releases, and chemical nomenclature. Among the databases highlighted will be TOXLINE, the Hazardous Substances Data Bank (HSDB), the Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS), the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), and ChemIDplus.
