Network Members in the Spotlight!

We would like to recognize the following network members by highlighting their accomplishments, promotions, awards, new positions, and departures. We welcome your submissions for possible future announcements!

Dorothy May, started on October 25 as the new Information Services Assistant at the John A. Burns School of Medicine Health Sciences Library at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Judy Kammerer, MA, MLIS, AHIP, was appointed Director of Library & Learning Resources, and Assistant Professor of Information Sciences for California Health Sciences University (CHSU) in Clovis, CA, on October 15, 2013. In addition to developing library operations, print and electronic collections, and student and faculty services, Judy will be teaching the 2nd year core course “Evidence-Based Medicine.”

Norma Layton became the new librarian at the new campus of West Coast University in Hollywood, effective September 2013. Norma recently left her position as Librarian at the Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Health Science Library in Burbank.

Lisa Federer is the new Research Data Informationist at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Library in Bethesda, MD. Lisa previously held the position of Research Informationist at UCLA’s Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library.

Sally Harvey, RN, left her position as Library Services Senior Manager at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. She started her new career in August as a nurse at the same hospital where she’s worked since 2001.

Zoe Pettway-Unno is the new Science Librarian at the Pollak Library in Cal State Fullerton. She serves as the liaison/consultant to Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, and Nursing departments; providing instruction and reference services. Zoe was previously the Librarian for Kaiser South Bay in Harbor City, CA.

David Midyette is the new Reference and Instruction Librarian at Roseman University of Health Sciences in Henderson, NV. David started on October 1, 2013. Previously, he was the Outreach and Communications Coordinator for the NN/LM Southeastern Atlantic Region (SE/A), at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

Xan Goodman, former Reference and Instruction Librarian at Roseman University of Health Sciences, is now the Health & Sciences Librarian at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, (UNLV) Libraries.

Paula Maez, former Youth Services Librarian at Pima County Public Library in Tucson, AZ, is going back to school full time. Amber Mathewson, Library Service Manager at Pima County Public Library, replaces Paula Maez as NN/LM liaison.

Diana Lane, former long-time Biomedical Librarian at the University of California, Riverside, passed away on August 10, 2013. During her career she also worked at the University of California, Irvine, McGaw Pharmaceuticals, Fullerton College, and Palo Verde College. Over the years Diana was heavily involved in the Medical Library Group of Southern California & Arizona (MLGSCA) in various capacities.

Kelli Ham, NN/LM PSR’s Consumer Health and Technology Coordinator, wrote a review of OpenRefine, a free open-source tool for cleaning and transforming data, in the July 2013 issue of the Journal of the Medical Library Association.

Lauren Maggio, Director of Research and Instruction at Stanford University’s Lane Medical Library and Knowledge Management Center, co-authored the article, “Access of primary and secondary literature by health personnel in an academic health center: implications for open access,” published in the July 2013 issue of the Journal of the Medical Library Association.

Cindy Perkins left her position at Children’s Hospital Central California in Fresno in late June 2013. She is now the Director of Hartigan Medical Library at Alegent Health Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Nicole Capdarest is the current Emerging Technologies Librarian at the Arizona Health Sciences Library in Tucson. She was the author of the Brief Communication Implementing a tablet circulation program on a shoestring, published in the July 2013 issue of the Journal of the Medical Library Association.

The new Arizona Health Sciences Library facility in downtown Phoenix was one of four building projects featured in a column of the July 2013 issue of the Journal of the Medical Library Association.
