Stephen Kiyoi was named Director of the Barnett-Briggs Medical Library at San Francisco General Hospital. He replaces Joy Graham, who retired in June 2012. Stephen recently completed the second year of his NLM Associate Fellowship at NN/LM PSR. He started his new position on September 4, 2012.
Bethany Harris, 2011-12 NLM Associate Fellow, started a new position as Research Librarian for the Health Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, on August 27, 2012. Her focus is selecting books and other materials for Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health. She will be working closely with the current Health Sciences Librarians, Steve Clancy and Linda Murphy, meeting with faculty, and building the collection.
Lynn Kysh, NN/LM PSR spring 2012 intern, started a position as the newest Information Services Librarian in the Educational & Research Services Division of the USC Norris Medical Library, effective October 1, 2012.
Jackie Davis, MLIS, Health Librarian in the Consumer Health Library of the Cushman Wellness Center, Sharp Memorial Hospital Outpatient Pavilion, in San Diego, CA, wrote the following article, which appears in the June/July 2012 issue of the MLA News: “Health Information Ambassador: Hospital Community Health Library Partnering with the Volunteer Department to Bring the Library to the Patient.” Additionally, an extensive article about the program will be published in the first quarterly issue of the Journal of Consumer Health on the Internet in 2013!
Carol Ann Attwood, MLS, AHIP, MPH, RN, medical librarian in the Patient and Health Education Library, and Kay E. Wellik, MLS, AHIP, FMLA, Director of Library Services, both at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ, are the authors of the following article in the new (October 2012) issue of the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing: “Collaboration, Collegiality, and Cooperation: Consumer Health Library Services and the American Cancer Society Navigator Role.” Congratulations!
Carol Ann Attwood is also co-editor, along with Jim Shedlock, of the new “Turning Points Column” of the MLA News, beginning with the September, 2012, issue. Carol and Jim will ask the authors of the column questions designed to explore emerging issues and trends, and what health science information professionals can do to prepare to face these issues.
UC Davis Health System received federal stimulus funding to lead a statewide initiative for electronic health data sharing among California hospitals, emergency departments, and physicians!
John Szabo is the newly appointed Los Angeles Public Library City Librarian. Previously, he was the Director of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System.
Stacey Aldrich completed her last day as California State Librarian on October 17, 2012, and she has taken the position of State Librarian for the state of Pennsylvania. Gerald Maginnity has assumed the position of Acting California State Librarian.
Michelle Henley will start on November 5, 2012, as the new Coordinator of Instruction and Consultation Services at Barnett Briggs Medical Library, San Francisco General Hospital. She was previously the Library Services Manager at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, Schaller Medical Library.
Bryan Nugent is the new librarian at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center. Bryan will be starting his new position on November 12, 2012. He will be assisting the transition at Banner Baywood until they hire a new librarian.
Marina T. Aiello, MLIS, AHIP, has accepted the position of Manager of Library Services for Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, CA. Previously, Marina worked for Kaiser Permanente Libraries in the Fresno, CA area. She is also currently serving on the American Library Association’s NMRT Handbook Committee.
A very special mention goes to Ysabel Bertolucci, who passed away on September 6, 2012. She had retired on August 31, 2012, from Kaiser Permanente Health Sciences Library in Oakland. We thank Ysabel for her over forty years of stellar contributions to medical librarianship and service to Kaiser Permanente!
