Hi everyone! I’m Lynwood Lord (I go by Lyn), the new Office Manager for the NNLM PSR. I’ll be coordinating the office workflow for the region now that Melina Perez has moved on to a new position in the UCLA Library.
Very early in my career I worked with medical publishers to provide content for doctors writing for the Current Opinion series of journals. For “digital natives,” it might sound strange that my main job was to chase down print copies of journal articles in various libraries around Philadelphia! Later I moved to a position working on a consumer health website.
More recently, over the past two years I worked with a research center in the UCLA Department of Family Medicine. The center’s primary work focused on predictive technology and social media in healthcare (e.g., how to use Facebook groups to deliver peer-led behavioral interventions). You can visit the website that I created for the UC Institute for Prediction Technology. Prior to that, I spent several years with a small organization in Northern California, Integral Institute, where I focused my efforts on publications and event management. All of the duties in these positions have crossover with the work of the RML, so in some ways it feels like I’ve come full circle.
In my new position as Office Manager, I’ll be working with NNLM training and outreach databases, coordinating travel and meeting arrangements, and taking care of the office’s accounting needs. Additionally, I will be providing support for outreach activities and hope to contribute to the region’s social media efforts. On a personal note: my creative outlets include writing and photography and I enjoy pretty much anything related to the outdoors, including hiking and long-distance running. I look forward to working with everyone and finding out how I can contribute to the NNLM’s mission to improve public health. Feel free to reach out to me!
