2024 NNLM Active Member Survey Summary

Posted by on June 12th, 2025 Posted in: All Members

The 2024 Active Member Survey was the second Network-wide, standard, online survey conducted on behalf of the NNLM. Its purpose was to connect with member organizations who had meaningfully engaged with the Network (from May 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024) and to compile feedback on their perceptions of the value and benefits of their membership; their awareness and usage of NNLM services; interests in trainings and funding, as well as to learn more about their own organizational characteristics.

Some highlights include:

  • Communication plays a vital role in member engagement, with 92% of respondents hearing about NNLM through direct channels such as blogs and newsletters. While most members have the necessary technology and internet access to participate, time constraints and limited staffing are cited as the main barriers to deeper involvement.
  • Training and workforce development remain central to NNLM’s impact. Members express strong interest in future offerings related to health equity, education, and data science—with artificial intelligence emerging as a topic of growing importance. Preferred training formats include beginner-level sessions, NLM product overviews, and skills-based workshops.
  • Funding awareness is high, yet only a third of organizations have applied within the past three years. Many prefer smaller awards, with $1,000 cited as a minimum incentive.
  • Respondents largely represent large institutions, including academic and hospital libraries, with Spanish identified as the most common language spoken in communities served beyond English.

Overall, we are happy to report NNLM continues to be a trusted and valuable resource, with 80% of survey respondents stating they are highly or very highly likely to recommend NNLM membership to other organizations.
