OpenRefine for Health Sciences Two-Part Course

This two-part course will introduce librarians and information professionals to practical data skills and provide examples and ways to incorporate OpenRefine into library work. OpenRefine is designed for a broad audience that includes anyone who needs to clean, transform, and analyze large datasets. This class is for Librarians and information professionals, especially those who work with health/health-related information, who have limited or no experience with OpenRefine or other data manipulation tools.

OpenRefine for Health Sciences: Part 1

  • Date/Time: September 9, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. MT
  • Learning Objectives:
    • Summarize the uses and applications for OpenRefine
    • Import and export a data file successfully
    • Utilize data manipulation options available in OpenRefine’s dropdown menus, including facets, filters, and clustering
    • Apply Undo/Redo actions to data transformations

OpenRefine for Health Sciences: Part 2

  •  Date/Time: September 16, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. MT
  • Learning Objectives:
    • Apply transformations to strings, numbers, dates and Booleans to programmatically edit data and prepare data for analysis.
    • Write expressions using General Refine Expression Language (GREL)
