Betsy Kelly, Assessment and Evaluation Coordinator, is retiring from the NNLM MCR effective April 30, 2017. Betsy has been with the NNLM MCR program since 2001 when she was based at Becker Medical Library at Washington University. The program greatly benefited from her unique skills and knowledge about librarianship, business practices, and technology.
Betsy is known for bringing assessment and evaluation to the MidContinental Region. With Barb Jones, she developed the library value calculators; still one of the most visited resources on the NNLM MCR web site. These calculators have been recognized by others as an effective tool for showing the cost value that libraries contribute to an organization. She co-developed and taught “Measuring Your Impact: Using Evaluation to Demonstrate Value” all over the country. This class increased the capacity of health sciences librarians to practice evaluation and use the results to show their value to their organizations.
To the NNLM MCR staff she will forever be our “logic model guru.” Betsy introduced the logic model as a way of bringing cohesion and purpose to the activities we were implementing. She also envisioned and created our Activity Reporting System that ties what we do to our logic model, thus integrating assessment and evaluation into our operations.
We will miss for her frankness and her ready willingness to help. Her friends and colleagues know that she doesn’t hesitate to go the extra mile. If you ask Betsy how she will be spending her time or she will tell you about her new grandson and tons of other fun ways–that make those of us still working, jealous. We wish Betsy the best in her retirement! /ch
