Funding for Citizen Science Activities – Apply By February 15

Region 4 is offering three awards up to $2,500 each for NNLM members located in Region 4 to support activities related to citizen science and its connection to health information access. Applicants are strongly encourage to read over our Getting Started guide prior to applying.  

Period of Performance: June 1, 2023 – April 30, 2024
Amount: Up to $2,500
Number of Awards Available: 3 
Application Deadline: Applications accepted and awarded on a rolling basis until the February 16, 2024, at 5:00 pm MT deadline or when the funds are depleted. 

Restrictions (other restrictions apply): 

  • Be a library located in AZ, ID, CO, MT, ND, NM, SD, UT, WY.
  • Qualify for membership with the Network of the National Library of Medicine Region 4.
  • Events must be free and open to the public.
  • Applications for funding must describe how it will support Region 4 primary aims, the mission of NNLM, and NLM’s strategic plan.
  • Promote National Library of Medicine resources through your library’s information channels (website, newsletter, etc.).
  • Include National Library of Medicine resources as part of your citizen science activities.
  • Funding is cost-reimbursable and must be allowed by the University of Utah and the National Institutes of Health Grant Policy.
  • Activity costs must be incurred an invoice provided to Region 4 prior to April 30, 2024.

Potential Project Ideas

Professional development opportunities such as classes, conferences, or workshops for individuals or groups of individuals associated with NNLM institutional members. Ideas include but are not limited to:

  • Create activity kits focused on a specific topic, such as pollinator identification or weather changes, for distribution or check out.
  • Teach patrons to download and use a science related app geared towards collecting public health data.
  • Costs associated with arranging for an expert speaker to give a talk, workshop, class, or lecture.
    NOTICE: Applications that include speaker fees over $1000 MUST sufficiently justify the expense.
