Consumer Health Collection Management On-Demand Course

The Consumer Health Collection Management course has been updated with a new design and is open for registration.

This two credit-hour, on-demand class reviews collection management principles, resources, and considerations for health-related collections in public libraries. Four modules and one assignment explore collection management policies, how to find information on the health information needs of your community, how to evaluate and assess a collection, and considerations for selecting health-related materials for a public library collection.

Activities

  • Module 1 Reading: Collection Management Policies and Procedures
  • Module 2 Reading: Understanding the Library’s Community Health Information Needs
  • Module 3 Reading: Evaluating and Assessing a Collection
  • Module 4 Reading: Selecting Health-Related Materials
  • Module 4: Final Assignment

Objectives

Learners will be able to:

  1. Explain and provide justification of the library’s health information collection design.
  2. Locate and use community health data to manage or develop the library’s health information collection.
  3. Assess the quality of the library’s current health information materials and identify any collection gaps.
  4. Identify (and select) authoritative health information resources, in a variety of formats, for the library’s collection to meet the health information needs of the community.
