You may have heard the exciting news that the University of Missouri’s iSchool and MU Libraries recently received an IMLS grant, “Catalysts for Community Health” (C4CH). The University of Missouri has the opportunity to offer 12 students the chance to participate in a three-year, fully-funded online interdisciplinary Master’s program targeted to develop a cohort of health librarians to serve in rural and urban underserved communities across the MidContinental Region which includes Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Utah, and Wyoming.

This program has opportunities for participation as potential students as well as advisory board members and community partners. Additional details regarding these specific opportunities are included below.

Are you a potential student interested in applying?

The University of Missouri is currently seeking applications from potential students who are passionate about their local communities and want to help improve access to health information at the local level. The program is especially interested in applicants located in rural and urban underserved communities. During the three-year period, the 12 students will take online classes in consumer health and librarianship, work with a local librarian and a mentor, attend professional development webinars to improve their skills and eventually be placed within their community’s public library or a community health setting, such as a health clinic or senior center. This Master’s program is completely online and is intended to allow the students to live and work in their local communities.

Are you interested in serving on the project advisory board or as a community partner?

A vital contribution to the success of the “Catalysts for Community Health” project will be driven by the help and guidance offered by the project’s advisory board and community partners from across the MidContinental Region. The University of Missouri is currently recruiting advisory board members and community partners. We are seeking leaders from across the region that will play a crucial role in helping to shape this groundbreaking program, serve as mentors to the student cohort, and assist with evaluating the program. Partners are compensated $1200/year.
