We want to highlight the amazing work being done in our region by regularly featuring funded projects in our nine states. This week, we are featuring Montana State University – Center for American Indian and Rural Health Equity’s (CAIRHE) project led by Assistant Professor Dr. Miranda Margetts.
The CAIRHE’s project sought to identify information gaps as well as opportunities to support optimal care and education of girls and women diagnosed with Müllerian anomalies, a gynecological birth defect found in approximately 7% of the female population. Building upon collaborative partnerships with community health organizations and rural OB/GYNs, Dr. Margetts and her team wanted to address the health disparities of this particular population by directly engaging with patients with Müllerian anomalies and their providers. Having access to quality healthcare information is crucial, as patients with this condition often encounter lifelong gynecological comorbidities.
Dr. Margetts stated, “The project afforded this rare opportunity to bring geographically remote individuals and organizations together to discuss this important topic and strengthen understanding.” Moving forward, CAIRHE is now developing patient-focused health education materials for individuals with Müllerian anomalies. If you would like to learn more about this project, be sure to check out the recording of last month’s R4 Connections webinar.
