Understanding and Using Generative AI Course Now Open

Posted by on January 15th, 2025 Posted in: #CC/Academic List, #Public/K-12 List, Webinars and Training

Register now - Understanding & Using Generative AI: A Course for Health Science Librarians

We’re excited to announce a free six-week asynchronous course designed for health science librarians interested in exploring the potential of generative artificial intelligence in their professional practice! The course runs from February 7 to March 21, 2025. Registrants should expect to spend 3 to 4 hours per week to participate fully in the course.

As the healthcare landscape rapidly evolves, so does the role of librarians. With the rise of generative AI technologies, including language models, healthcare professionals are relying more than ever on advanced AI solutions to process and interpret vast amounts of data. This course will equip librarians with the knowledge to effectively navigate this dynamic field and make informed decisions about incorporating AI into their work. No technical understanding of generative AI is needed.

Registration is required. Please note: Course registration is limited to individuals in Region 4 states (AZ, CO, NM, MT, WY, UT, ND, SD, and ID).

Over six weeks, participants will engage in interactive lessons that cover key topics such as:

  • Understanding the technology behind generative AI
  • Prompting for large language models
  • Multimodal features for educational use
  • Capabilities of multimedia generation (images, video, music, speech)
  • Staying current and avoiding the hype about AI
  • Applications of generative AI in healthcare and medicine including ethical issues such as bias, copyright, and privacy protection

If you would like to learn more, our November 2024 R4 Connections session went over the course in detail.
