JOB TITLE: 

Assistant Librarian – Regional Medical Library/Public Health Engagement Specialist for Wyoming, University of Wyoming Libraries

JOB PURPOSE: 

The University of Wyoming Libraries seeks applicants for the Public Health Engagement Specialist for the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) Region 4. The mission of the NNLM is to advance the progress of medicine and improve public health through access to health information.

The Public Health Engagement Specialist will provide leadership for NNLM public health outreach, training, and programs in Region 4 (https://nnlm.gov/about/regions/region4).  This position, based at the University of Wyoming Libraries, will build partnerships and collaborations with librarians, health care providers, public health professionals, K-12 educators, and community-based organizations.  This position acts as the primary point of contact to connect NNLM programs and services with interested organizations operating in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Travel throughout Region 4 will include site visits, presentations, and teaching. Travel to the Region 4 offices at the University of Utah and to national conference sites occurs throughout the year.

This is a full time, grant funded position and reports to the Associate Dean of Libraries.

APPLICATION AND SALARY:  Review of applications will begin on the priority application deadline listed below and will continue until the position is filled or the search is terminated.  Minimum salary $53,000. Benefits include vacation; sick leave, group health insurance, state and TIAA-CREF retirement plans, no state income tax.  Full time, non-extended term track, 12-month appointment, contingent upon external funding. Reappointment contingent upon job performance and external funding.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Seek, identify and form partnerships with organizations who provide health information to diverse populations.
  • Provide training on public health information resources in person and virtually.
  • Present health information resources at appropriate meetings, conferences, and conventions in Region 4 and at some national conferences.
  • Collaborate regionally and nationally with NNLM staff in initiatives, working groups, task forces, and trainings.
  • Maintain Wyoming NNLM member relationships and recruit new members.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

This position is eligible for a flexible work schedule with the potential for remote work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Willingness to travel by vehicle and plane and ability to transport and set up exhibit materials
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and be a self-starter
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Excellent technology, communication, interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing
  • Experience working as a part of a virtual team
  • Experience leading diversity and inclusion initiatives or programs
  • Experience with National Library of Medicine resources, such as PubMed or MedlinePlus
  • Experience working as a health educator or in a health sciences library
