Dive into how you can be more effective in providing health information to library patrons and your community. This live, two-part workshop at the Utah Library Association Annual Conference is offered by the Utah Health Literacy Coalition and the Network of the National Library of Medicine.
Speakers will introduce you to health literacy and health communication, then apply the concepts to working with patrons of multiple backgrounds, including refugees, immigrants and asylees. We will define health literacy and explore how communication and health literacy affect a person’s health care decision-making.
We will discuss the health issues of Utah’s immigrants and refugees, and present resources that can be shared with users in your communities. Presenters will include librarians and community health workers from the Salt Lake County Department of Health.
This workshop qualifies for two continuing-education credits that can be applied toward the Consumer Health Information Specialization from the Medical Library Association. CHIS courses can also be taken online for free.
