What has Dana Abbey, Engagement Specialist, Done to Improve Health Literacy?

Posted by on October 7th, 2021 Posted in: #CC/Academic List, #Health Interest List, #Health Sciences List, #Public/K-12 List, All Members

I try to incorporate health literacy concepts and philosophies in all my interactions. If I am in a meeting or conversation, am I using plain language, am I avoiding jargon? If I am teaching, do I offer multiple ways to access information to address different learning styles? For written communications, do I organize the content to address the important points first, use an active voice, or break down complex information into understandable smaller pieces?
Dana Abbey is an Engagement Coordinator with the Network of the National Library of Medicine, Region 4. For over 15 years, she has worked to improve the public’s access to reliable information to enable informed decisions regarding health, and to enhance access to evidence-based research for clinicians and the public health workforce.
