The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), in collaboration with federal agencies participating in a Year of Open Science, invite researchers, community scientists, educators, innovators, and members of the broader public to share stories of how they’ve advanced equitable open science.
Submissions of open science stories will be accepted until November 22, 2023, in the following categories for which a winning story may be selected and recognized as a Champion for Open Science:
This challenge seeks to spotlight the stories and teams behind projects that have addressed a particular challenge or advanced a solution, while embodying open science principles and practices. These stories can underscore the potential for open science to scale the benefits of discovery and innovation across every sector of our society. Projects should either be supported by federal grant awards (currently or previously) or make use of openly available federally funded resources, including publications, datasets, and software. While federal employees, contractors, trainees, and fellows are not eligible to win the challenge, their stories may be considered for an internal recognition for exemplars of open science within the U.S. Government.
Full details on the challenge, application requirements, judging criteria, and more can be found on the overview page. OSTP and participating agencies are also hosting a Challenge Chat to answer questions on November 8th at 1:30 p.m. MT/3:30 p.m. ET. Register here.
