{"id":33294,"date":"2025-03-17T10:00:51","date_gmt":"2025-03-17T17:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_4\/?p=33294"},"modified":"2025-03-24T15:41:38","modified_gmt":"2025-03-24T22:41:38","slug":"need-assistance-with-your-nih-data-management","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_4\/need-assistance-with-your-nih-data-management\/","title":{"rendered":"Need Assistance with Your NIH Data Management?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Creating a comprehensive data management plan is a crucial part of the research process.\u00a0To help researchers and librarians navigate this process, we&#8217;ve compiled a list of valuable resources offering guidance for developing a robust and compliant DMS:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NIH has a <a href=\"https:\/\/sharing.nih.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scientific Data Sharing<\/a>\u00a0website, which includes information on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sharing.nih.gov\/data-management-and-sharing-policy\/about-data-management-sharing-policy\/data-management-and-sharing-policy-overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NIH Policy for Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Plan Requirements<\/a> that went into effect on January 25, 2023. DMS Plans are recommended to be two pages or less in length.\u00a0NIH has developed an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/forms\/data-management-and-sharing-plan-format-page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">optional DMS Plan format page<\/a> that aligns with the recommended elements of a DMS Plan.<\/li>\n<li>NIH provides <a href=\"https:\/\/sharing.nih.gov\/data-management-and-sharing-policy\/planning-and-budgeting-for-data-management-and-sharing\/writing-a-data-management-and-sharing-plan#sample-plans\">sample DMS plans<\/a> to help applicants understand how to develop their own plans in various research contexts. While these samples serve as educational resources, they are not templates and using them does not guarantee NIH approval. It\u2019s important for applicants to tailor their plans to meet specific expectations outlined by NIH or individual Institutes, Centers, or Offices, in addition to adhering to the general DMS Policy.
