The Wyoming Engagement Specialist (David Brown) visited the Fort Washakie School and Community Library in April of 2023. During this visit he had the opportunity to engage with Robin Levin (Librarian) and Beverly Hill (Library Assistant). While there, he found out about the success of the Moby Bookmobile and future plans for the school and bookmobile.
During his visit he learned about several new initiatives being undertaken by the School and Community Library and the Moby Bookmobile. The Moby Bookmobile has started distributing books on Saturday mornings at the post office to allow for more individuals to browse and select titles of interest to them. The health related Native/Indigenous titles provided by the NNLM Region 4 are extremely popular among the patrons. The bookmobile is also looking into expanding to other parts of the region to help distribute reading materials to other tribes and underserved/underrepresented groups.
A new initiative being undertaken is creating dual language books (English and Shoshone), to teach school aged children both their Native language (Shoshone) and English to help them understand their cultural roots. A prototype and completed book are pictured bellow.
