Los Angeles Wildfires

The Region 5 team extends our heartfelt support to everyone affected by the devasting wildfires in California. These communities are facing terrible losses, and we are ready to offer support any way we can.  

We have compiled some links to trusted resources that provide up-to-date information on tools and services for people affected by these wildfires. 

MedlinePlus Wildfires

The MedlinePlus Wildfires topic provides reliable information on the health risks of wildfires, including respiratory problems, burns, and mental health effects, as well as guidance on preparedness, such as evacuation planning and protecting air quality. It also offers recovery tips for cleanup and emotional well-being, with links to reliable resources from agencies like FEMA, CDC, and EPA.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) 

The FEMA website provides information and resources for individuals and families affected by the California wildfires and straight-line winds, including how to apply for disaster assistance, find local resources, and stay informed about recovery efforts. Information is available in multiple languages.

USAGov 

The USAGov website provides information on how the U.S. government is responding to the Southern California wildfires, including resources for disaster recovery, financial assistance, health support, and more. 

State of California 

The California State Portal provides essential resources and real-time information for Californians impacted by the Los Angeles fires, including how to apply for FEMA assistance, stay informed about evacuation notices, and access safety tips. 

County of Los Angeles 

The Los Angeles County emergency page provides real-time, hyper-local updates on wildfires, evacuation information, resources for impacted residents, and recovery assistance. Information is available in multiple languages.

Disaster Distress Helpline

SAMHSA’s Disaster Distress Helpline (DDH) is a toll-free, multilingual, crisis support service is available 24/7 to all residents in the U.S. and its territories who are experiencing emotional distress related to natural or human-caused disasters.

  • Call or text 1-800-985-5990.
  • Español: Llama o envía un mensaje de texto 1-800-985-5990 presiona “2.”
  • For Deaf and Hard of Hearing ASL Callers: Please text or call the Disaster Distress Helpline at 1-800-985-5990 using your preferred Relay provider.

National Center for PTSD 

The National Center for PTSD website provides information on common reactions to wildfires, coping strategies, and when to seek professional help for those affected by such traumatic events.
