Hello everyone, I am Kaia Comeau, the new student assistant for the National Network of the National Library of Medicine, Region 5. In this role, I will be helping the office with their communication and outreach efforts (and any other projects that the office may need help with!).
I am currently in my 2nd year of my Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) program at the University of Washington (UW), so I am very excited to gain some professional experience in the library field. I did my undergraduate studies at Western Washington University (WWU), where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology with minors in East Asian Studies and Political Science, as well as completed a year-long study abroad program at Yonsei University. I come to this office with a few years of experience in student services and non-profits, where I worked as a study abroad peer advisor for WWU, a financial aid advisor for Cornish College of the Arts, and an intern for Disability:IN. My dream jobs for after I graduate are to either become a study abroad advisor/director, genealogy librarian for a state archive, or a sports librarian/digital asset manager (preferably for a hockey team).
In my personal time, I enjoy hanging out with my two cats Perilla and Pork Belly, as well as learning languages (I have formally studied Spanish, Japanese, and Korean), reading, collecting vintage tech and physical media, researching family histories, and going to PWHL games (go Torrent!).
