Announcing New Funding Opportunities

The NN/LM PNR will announce new funding opportunities in the Spring of 2017, for projects to begin after May 1, 2017. Applications submitted by April 14, 2017  will receive fullest consideration and will be reviewed on a first come first serve basis.

Pending budget availability, new funding opportunities will include:

Community Health Outreach Award, two awards up to $9,500 each.

This award is to support outreach projects with aims to improve access and use of quality online health information for informed decisions about health in underserved communities. Possible activities include: 1) Promotional activities, including health fairs, exhibits and events to increase awareness and use of electronic resources; 2) Hands-on training sessions at conferences of health care providers about skills to identify, access, retrieve, evaluate, and use relevant electronic health information resources for patient and consumer health education; 3) Collaboration by one or more of the following: libraries (all types), public health agencies, academic or K-12 programs, healthcare workforce, or community organizations.

Health Sciences Library Partnership Award, two awards up to $9,500 each.

This award seeks to build partnerships that demonstrate engagement in research and data through the sharing of expertise and resources. Possible activities include: 1) Collaboration between libraries and their institution’s Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) program, with emphasis on the CTSA community engagement component; 2) Projects to promote clinical trials, especially for special and minority populations, to address disparities in health research; 3) Collaborating with librarians and clinical staff on use of data in Electronic Health Records (EHRs) to improve patient outcomes; 4) Offering a new service to support clinicians, such as providing evidence to support the development of clinical guidelines or providing support on a research committee, patient education committee, or another institutional committee; 5) Developing librarian and researcher skills in National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) biomedical and genomic resources; 6) Developing knowledge and skills of librarians, students, researchers or clinicians about best practices for organizing, managing and sharing data; 7) Consulting with researchers on research data management planning; 8) Promoting literacy in data science, including  tools development or implementing teaching or learning programs.

Technology Improvement Award, 2 awards up to $5,000 each.

This award seeks to enhance the capacity of a library or community organization to offer electronic health information services to underserved audiences by supporting the purchase, installation, and/or upgrading of hardware and software.

Professional Development Award, up to $1,100 each until funds are expended.

The purpose of this award is to enable individuals at member institutions to expand professional knowledge through continuing education to provide state of the art services to healthcare providers and/or consumers seeking health information (this funding is not available for the Medical Library Association Annual Meeting.)
