After more than 3 years in a trailer in the parking lot, the Library & Information Commons at Seattle’s Children’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center has finally come home. Librarians Susan Klawansky and Kathleen McCrory and library technician Sue Groshong are very pleased to be back in their newly renovated space, which is ideally situated right next to the busy “Whale 6” entrance to the hospital.
On Thursday June 21, an RML contingent consisting of Cathy Burroughs, Pat Devine, and Andrea Ryce had the pleasure of attending the opening of the new Library & Information Commons at Children’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center in Seattle. The renovation comes as a result of a seismic upgrade to the hospital wing. The new Library & Information Commons includes a training room, study carrels, several computers, and a cozy reading nook. Although much of the library use is through e-resources, there is still a substantial print collection for browsing, reference, and circulation. The opening of the library was well attended, with many Children’s Hospital staffers dropping by to view their new space, chat with librarians, and of course, enjoy the cake! Congratulations to Susan, Kathleen, and Sue.
