It has been six months since NNLM Region 5 launched the Diverse Voices in Health and Medicine Collection Development Toolkit. During this time, the toolkit has been shared extensively across Region 5 and other NNLM regions, and we are grateful to the libraries that have contributed to its success.

We proudly announce that the toolkit was downloaded 1222 times between September 28 and March 28 and referenced as a collection development resource in subsequent Collection Equity Award applications. We took a closer look at the materials and found that the most popular topics in the toolkit are Mental Health, Health Topics for People of Color, and Health Equity, showing an increased need for resources on these subjects throughout the region.

Region 5 is also excited to announce the launch of a new collection: Graphic Medicine. This new document includes all graphic novels from the Adult, Young Adult, and Children’s collections in one pdf file. The Graphic Medicine Collection is available for download here and will be included on the toolkit website soon. We also anticipate releasing a second version of the toolkit this summer that will include updates with even more resources.

We would again like to extend our thanks to all the libraries that have contributed to the Diverse Voices Toolkit, and we look forward to continuing to share this valuable resource with others.
