NNLM Region 5 Annual Report, 2024

On April 30, 2024, the Network of the National Library of Medicine, Region 5 wrapped up the third year of our 5-year program. Over the last year, Region 5 staff nurtured relationships built in the pervious two years, leading to innovative collaborations with member organizations; a successful awards & funding program; and continued programs and learning opportunities that are valued by members.

By the Numbers

  • Funded 23 awards, totaling $90,417.
  • Maintained 831 total members, including 28 new members.
  • Supported 30 NLM Traveling Exhibits in the Region.
  • Shared information about NLM resources and NNLM projects through 13 conference presentations, 6 exhibits, 2 column articles, and 1 site visit.
  • Taught 20 NNLM classes, addressing consumer health; health misinformation; health disparities/health equity; NLM resources; and telehealth.
  • Top webinar: Environmental Health Literacy: An Engaged Framework for Understanding and Action, had 346 registrants, 177 attendees, and 123 recording views.

Key Accomplishments

Top Programs & Activities

  • Hosted 2 Library Carpentry Workshops, with 41 attendees overall.
  • Provided access to the film Laboring with Hope to 8 members to prompt discussions about maternal health disparities and share reliable health information.
  • Organized regionally relevant webinars on homelessness and food insecurity through the PNC-MLA Health Equity and Diversity Speaker Series.
  • Led the development of three new modules for the Consumer Health Information Specialization (CHIS) Level 2.
  • Partnered with the Hawaii Pacific Chapter of MLA to circulate NLM’s retired Native Voices exhibit in Hawaii.
  • Mentored students and new professionals through a capstone project with University of Washington iSchool students to create NNLM’s new DEIA Guide; a practicum for a NLM Associate Fellow; and an internship with a San Jose State University student.
