Oregon Librarians Are Certifiable!

Posted by on May 3rd, 2005 Posted in: News From NNLM PNR

In March 2005, the Portland Area Library System (PORTALS) hosted training sessions for librarians who are interested in pursuing their Consumer Health Information Specialist certification through the Medical Library Association. Gail Kouame, RML Consumer Health Coordinator offered two days of training consisting of a total of 12 hours with hands-on exercises. Librarians from around Oregon and southwest Washington attended. The training sessions used curriculum materials developed by NN/LM. The curriculum materials can be accessed at: nnlm.gov/train/consumer.

There are plans for further training after the 2005 Medical Library Association annual conference where Gail Kouame will be attending two continuing education classes: No Comprende? Spanish Health Information Resources for English Speaking Librarians, and An Evidence-Based Approach to Complementary & Alternative Medicine, both produced by NN/LM staff in other regions. If you are interested in receiving similar training for your group, please contact the RML at nnlm@u.washington.edu or by calling 1-800-338-7657.
