A myriad of health challenges confront countries throughout the world. Information systems and resources to support prediction, prevention as well as coordinated response across borders can play a key role in improving health. Developing countries, however, are at a particular disadvantage with fragmented information systems, as well as lack of a trained workforce and resources, including comprehensive health sciences libraries.  A good deal of funding is being invested in the development of health information technologies, in particular mobile technologies; however, much of the initiative for this work comes from  developed countries without sufficient attention to creating an educated workforce within resource-constrained countries, a workforce which will not only use the systems but who can lead the development of sustainable health information systems and educate the next generation of practitioners. Several examples of innovative approaches to this challenge by Universities throughout the world  will be shared.  A discussion about potential roles of librarians in building connections to accelerate these developments will conclude the session.
