The Addict’s Wake: Virtual Film Screening & Panel Discussion

Posted by on September 10th, 2024 Posted in: News from NNLM, Substance Misuse

Our NNLM colleagues in Region 6 have shared an excellent learning opportunity regarding substance use and treatment, featuring the documentary film The Addict’s Wake. Please join us!

Virtual Film Screening

Region 6 has partnered with Glory Girls Production to present the film, The Addict’s Wake. The movie shares stories of substance use disorder and treatment told from the survivor’s perspective. Virtual screening of the film will begin at 6 AM Pacific on Thursday, September 19, and run through 10 AM Pacific on Thursday, September 26. When you register for the free screening at the producer’s website, you will be sent an email with a personal ticket link. Be sure to check your spam folder if it doesn’t hit your inbox!

Panel Discussion Webinar

Following the screening period, a virtual panel discussion will take place on Thursday, September 26th at 12 PM Pacific. You can register for the panel discussion at the NNLM website. The panel will include the film’s director, Lori Hall, Dr. William Cooke, a community physician and author of Canary in the Coal Mine, and Dr. Lisa Witty. They will share their experiences and knowledge for recognizing, diagnosing, and supporting persons with substance use disorders while advocating for advances in prevention and recovery awareness and information for the broad impact of substance-use primarily in small and rural communities. The program also will raise awareness of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and SAMSHA information resources.
