{"id":14383,"date":"2016-09-14T08:55:32","date_gmt":"2016-09-14T15:55:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnlm.gov\/pnr\/dragonfly\/?p=14383"},"modified":"2026-02-03T17:14:25","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T17:14:25","slug":"next-pnr-rendezvous-precision-medicine","status":"archive","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_5\/next-pnr-rendezvous-precision-medicine\/","title":{"rendered":"Next PNR Rendezvous &#8211; Precision Medicine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>&#8220;Adventures in Precision Medicine: A Major Public Research Initiative and it Implications for Healthcare Consumers and Institutions&#8221;<\/em> is the title of our next PNR Rendezvous webinar September 21.\u00a0Malia Fullerton,\u00a0Associate Professor of Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Washington School of Medicine and Adjunct Associate Professor in the UW Departments of Epidemiology and Genome Sciences, as well as an affiliate investigator with the Public Health Sciences division of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC). \u00a0In early 2015 President Barack Obama announced an ambitious research initiative aimed at generating data needed to usher in a new era of medicine, one that will deliver \u201cthe right treatments, at the right time, every time to the right person.\u201d This project, known now as the Precision Medicine Initiative or PMI, is recently underway and seeks to enroll 1 million or more patients from around the United States.\u00a0 What will healthcare consumers need to know before they decide to participate? \u00a0And how will the national effort to study specimens, medical record data, and information collected by mobile health technologies from thousands of patients impact healthcare delivery?<\/p>\n<p>Public librarians and those working in healthcare will find this an informative session as Precision Medicine becomes the primary delivery of healthcare.
