{"id":16611,"date":"2018-10-28T21:20:49","date_gmt":"2018-10-28T21:20:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/pnr\/?p=16611"},"modified":"2026-02-03T18:31:34","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T18:31:34","slug":"data-flash-rip-pubmed-health","status":"archive","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_5\/data-flash-rip-pubmed-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Data Flash: RIP PubMed Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is not exactly a data post, but, the loss of a trusted source for clinical effectiveness research will have its effects on the dataverse.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/ncbiinsights.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/2018\/07\/31\/pubmed-health-discontinued-october-2018-nlm\/\">PubMed Health is being discontinued<\/a> as of this coming Wednesday.\u00a0 As any of my colleagues can tell you, I&#8217;m taking the loss of PubMed Health hard&#8211; I loved showing it to people at various conferences, and using it myself&#8211; I found it a wonderful mid-point between MedlinePlus.gov and PubMed.gov, and it also had some great methodology resources and a glossary.\u00a0 All of its content will be findable in other ways though!<\/p>\n<p>In thinking about how to proceed in future with finding clinical effectiveness research searching, I did some exploring and gathered my findings into a poster I presented recently at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wspha.org\/annual-conference\">Washington State Public Health Association conference<\/a>.\u00a0 Below, in list form, is the poster content&#8211;feel free to contact me at glusker (AT) uw.edu if you have any questions! And please send any suggestions for additions to these lists!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Check Out These Ways to Find Research on Clinical Effectiveness:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PubMed.gov has filters for systematic reviews and guidelines<\/li>\n<li>Who cares? Seek out the organizations that care about the topic (Kids? American Academy of Pediatrics!)<\/li>\n<li>If you or your local health sciences library have databases, check them out\u2014for example, nursing database CINAHL has great content<\/li>\n<li>NLM\u2019s \u201cBookshelf\u201d is becoming a good resource for guidelines <u><a href=\"https:\/\/is.gd\/NLMBookshelf\">https<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/is.gd\/NLMBookshelf\">:\/\/<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/is.gd\/NLMBookshelf\">is.gd\/NLMBookshelf<\/a><\/u><\/li>\n<li>The National Guidelines Clearinghouse will soon be re-released by ECRI and they have said it will be open access!<\/li>\n<li>ClinicalTrials.gov records often link to related publications<\/li>\n<li>For public health\u2014try <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecommunityguide.org\/\">www.thecommunityguide.org<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nlm.nih.gov\/nichsr\/onesearch.html?_ga=2.21175998.481739629.1536718409-1129956451.1481568628\">NICHSR OneSearch<\/a> (a federated search of four public health databases)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Ramp Up Your Google Search Skills!\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Try this string, created by P.F.
