As Consumer Health Coordinator for the NNLM PNR, I help to provide information regarding library services and programming for those who serve the general public. Many of you juggle several job duties as well as a variety of information needs and so may welcome some tips and ideas of how to best serve the consumer health needs of those in your communities. I hope you find these monthly tips helpful and of interest and I welcome any ideas you may have for future posts as well as any comments.<\/p>\n<p>Welcome to the first Consumer Health Minute post.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past year or so, the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) has had a partnership with the Public Library Association (PLA) called, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/pla\/initiatives\/healthliteracy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Promoting Healthy Communities: A Health Information Initiative<\/a>. Though initiative is past, the results of this partnership still remain. Take a moment to review these resources and see which would be helpful in your work with consumer health and share these with your colleagues.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are a member of PLA, you can join the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/news\/member-news\/2018\/05\/pla-launches-new-interest-groups-online-community-platform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health Interest discussion group<\/a> where programming ideas can be shared and questions asked informally.<\/li>\n<li>You don&#8217;t have to be a member to receive the <a href=\"https:\/\/ala.informz.net\/ala\/pages\/PLA_Opt_In_Manager\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health Initiative email newsletter<\/a> which provides quick information such as webinars, articles, programming, and news specifically for public library staff<\/li>\n<li>You also don&#8217;t have to be a member to use the website, <a href=\"https:\/\/publiclibrary.health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Healthy Community Tools for Public Libraries<\/a>.
