And, now numerous news stories, blogs, and social media have posted about the effects of isolation and its effect on work, at home, and our mental well-being during this current health crisis. You and the communities you serve are also feeling these effects.<\/p>\n<p>Though some states are lifting their stay-at-home restrictions, we will most likely continue to experience various levels of continued social distancing. How can you help? Here are some resources to assist your patrons and communities to help them through this time of isolation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/daily-life-coping\/managing-stress-anxiety.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CDC<\/a> acknowledges the stress that disease outbreaks can cause individuals and that we all experience this stress differently. Their website provides a more comprehensive approach to mental well-being by including information for parents, for those with pre-existing mental health conditions, and for those at high risk.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/health\/education-awareness\/shareable-resources-on-coping-with-covid-19.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Institute of Mental Health<\/a> provides a whole host of social media messages regarding COVID-19 and mental health for you to use.\u00a0 Messages are also available in Spanish.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.samhsa.gov\/coronavirus\">SAMHSA<\/a> (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) also has their list of resources. You may find the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.samhsa.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/tips-social-distancing-quarantine-isolation-031620.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Tips for Social Distancing, Quarantine, and Isolation During an Infectious Disease Outbreak<\/em><\/a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/store.samhsa.gov\/product\/Coping-with-Stress-During-Infectious-Disease-Outbreaks\/sma14-4885\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Coping with Stress During Infectious Disease Outbreaks<\/em><\/a>&#8221; most relevant for current needs.\u00a0 The SAMHSA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samhsa.gov\/find-help\/disaster-distress-helpline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Disaster Distress Hotline<\/a> is available 24\/7 which provides immediate crises counseling for those experiencing emotional distress during a human or natural crisis.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/campaigns\/connecting-the-world-to-combat-coronavirus\/healthyathome\/healthyathome---mental-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">World Health Organization<\/a> includes information for parents, if you&#8217;re an older adult, and for those who have a mental health condition.
